It's always great when current happenings confirm astrological information.
Most of our members, probably, have never heard of a retrograde Mercury. All planets except the luminaries, Sun & Moon, go retrograde for, usually, short periods, each year. As they get to a certain angle in their orbit around the Sun, they appear to move backwards, as viewed from Earth, for a time, then move forward again. Mercury, being the fastest planet, usually is retrograde 2 or 3 times a year, for several weeks. The more distant planets like Uranus or Pluto, can be retrograde more than half the year.
During a Mercury retrograde, certain things happen. There are delays & confusion in thinking, communication, & transportation. The things that are naturally ruled by Mercury. During a retrograde, you will play phone tag with people, letters will take weeks to be delivered across the street & you can count on delays while traveling. Things done for the first time, need to be re-done, later. Although, if you take a vacation to someplace for the first time on a retrograde Mercury, you get to do it again. That can be great.
Using Mercury retrograde energy properly can be accomplished by finishing things left undone. That drawer or closet you have been meaning to clean out, anything that has been put off, can be a source of "re-claimed" energy. Slowing down & rechecking details are very important to keep mistakes for causing trouble.
We started this year with a retrograde Mercury on January 11th & going direct on the 31st of the month. If you caught any of the inauguration of Barack Obama, yesterday: the Chief Justice fumbled the words of the Oath of Office. Well today, the new President & the Chief Justice got together & went thru the ceremony again; to make sure that any strict Constitutionalist would not say the oath was not given properly. Sounds like a Mercury retrograde to me.
Of course it didn't help to also have the ceremony happen with a void-of-course Moon. That is something I will explain another time, but it means that things do not go at intended during this period.
