Having suffered quite badly with stress and anxiety over the last couple of years, I want to try to meditate often to help clear my mind and focus.
If anyone has any tips they'd be appreciated.

hiya i cannot meditate - as such - i.e: put aside a time to sit and clear my mind, because my mind is always buzzing with ideas! but having suffered with stress, anxiety (and panic attacks) in the past, i have found that i can de-stress and quieten my mind with a couple of different methods. 1. a simple breathing exercise which really does work - you breathe in to a count of three and breathe out to a count of six - keep repeating this and it balances your oxygen levels and calms everything down. 2. EFT - emotional freedom technique - you can look this up on the net. it is amazing. you dont need to go to an EFT therapist, you can teach yourself how to do it, with very good results. i hope this helps, and i am sure others on the forum will have other ideas to help you too mj xx

The secret to meditation, because it is a learned technique, is to practice. Every time a thought comes into your head acknowledge it and then let it go. This will happen a lot when you first start and gradually you will learn to quieten your mind, until it becomes still. Or get a meditation CD, like Doreen virtues Chakra balancing meditation, then you are focusing on something and this is much easier.

I find it easiest to meditate outside. Somehow it's easier to empty my mind and get into a meditative state in a natural setting.
When doing it indoors is a necessity, I can really recommend the music of Hildegarde von Bingen. She was an Abbess in 12th Century Germany, and her music is beautiful.
